Marisa Quigley

Begley, Butler & Quigley

In 2015, Marisa and songwriter-musicians Helen Begley and Rachel Oak Butler piled into a Bedford truck with Bronson, the three-legged dog, an Octocopter, fairy lights, 12 metres of red velvet, guitars, ukuleles, an accordion and a film crew to discover and document what happens when three independent Australian songwriters bring their work and a BBQ aka Begley, Butler & Quigley, to outback Australia. The BBQ To Broken Hill tour, and the successful crowd-funded Pozible campaign, garnered widespread media coverage and community support.

The likely trio first met at the Uranquinty Folk Festival and immediately became firm friends. They joined forces for the first time for a 'songwriters in the round' presentation at an Under The Hills Hoist Concert in Wodonga. Whether it was the combination of hilarity and gravitas, the fact that they represent each of the astrological fire signs, or that they are all just really great songwriters and performers, the three mates knew that something special had been created and the crazy idea for a tour to Broken Hill was born.

Good friend and independent film-maker, Joshua Levi Collings of Pegleg Productions, headed up the hard-working film crew and captured adventures abounding. The subsequent DVD documentary is currently in production and will be available for viewing shortly.
